By Ivor Darby

Penalty shoot-out kings, superb form of 2019 maintained, 13 game unbeaten run

The 1st Team travelled to Premier Division Newmarket Town on Tuesday night for a League Challenge Cup semi-final match and, after a hard fought 1-1 draw, maintained their 100% penalty shoot-out record with a 4-2 success. Their opponents in the final will be either Premier Divison Long Melford or Essex based Benfleet from the First Divison South. The teams meet at Long Melford on Wednesday 20th March.

STOP PRESS - Long Melford beat Benfleet by 4 goals to 3

Fakenham's progress in the Challenge Cup has mirrored the exploits of the German national side of yester-year when it was always a draw at full time before they went on to win on penalties. In the Quarter Final at Kirkley & Pakefield a 0-0 full time result became 4-2 to Fakenham after the penalty shoot-out. In the round prior against Swaffham Town a 2-2 full time scoreline became 8-7 after a very dramatic shoot-out.
The final will be played on Bank Holiday Monday, May 6th at Diss Town FC, kick off 3pm.
