Both teams had not played for several weeks, so fitness was always going to be a key factor in the latter stages of the game.
The Ghosts started brightly, and for the first 10/15 minutes Thorpe were barely unable to get out of their own half. Chances were created but a combination of good goalkeeping and wayward shooting meant the score stayed level.
Fakenham were rewarded for their persistence midway through the first half when Rochy Woods hit a speculative shot from 25-odd yards which lobbed the Thorpe keeper and dipped just under the crossbar. It was assisted by the wind but nothing more than the visitors deserved. 0-1.
Second-half, the Ghosts started in much the same vein as the first, but as the half wore on were increasingly pinned back in their own half.
The equaliser came around midway in the half when the Thorpe striker evaded the defence and shot past Taylor. Thorpe added a 2nd not long after in a similar move, as Fakenham began to tire.
When a third was added many began to write off the visitors, however they never gave up hope of getting back into the game.
When a second goal was scored by captain King after excellent work down the left hand side it gave the Ghosts a glimmer of hope, but sadly it came too little too late.
The ladies are next in action when they welcome Wymondham on Sunday January 14th , in the Quarter Finals of the Norfolk Women's Cup (kick off 1:30pm).
Manager's player of the match award: Selina Goodrum.
