Fakenham Town Reserves 2017-2018
The Reserves play their football in Division 2 of the Hadley & Ottaway Anglian Combination League. They are managed by Craig Rutland (player/manager), ably assisted by Dean Betts.
The last few seasons have seen a topsy-turvy ride for the Reserves. Back in 2007 they were promoted into Senior Football for the first time but that lasted only a single season before starting an almost terminal decline, with three successive seasons of relegations and numerous games called off due to lack of players. It could only get better and it did. Season 2013-14 was the turning point where they gained promotion as Anglian Combination Division 4 champions. Last season saw the team finish as Division 3 Runners-Up and, with basically the same squad, they are now aiming for back-to-back promotions and a welcome return to Senior Football.
To go with their league successes, and for the first time in many, many seasons, they have replicated their league form into the various cup competitions. In the Anglian Combination Junior League Cup, the Cyril Ballyn Cup, they are through to the final where they play Brandon Town at the Norfolk FA Football Development Centre in Norwich. In the Norfolk Junior Cup, much has improved since last season’s ignominious Round 1 defeat to North West Norfolk side Narborough. A first round bye was followed by a comfortable win over Scole United Reserves and then a Walkover against Horsford United. The fourth round saw them pitted against 2014-15 finalists Castle Acre Swifts and a superb display saw a 2-1 win (goals by Joe Harrison and Dan Payne) to progress to the Quarter Finals to face last season's beaten finalists Runton United. A tight match saw them triumph 1-0 (Joe Harrison) and progress to the semi's where they faced East Harling. A 3-0 loss saw the end of the dream of a trip to Carrow Road but everyone in the squad should be proud of the progress made this season with a bright future beckoning.
