Excellent away win at Reepham Town with 5 unanswered goals

Luke Priestley hat-trick seals the win

A very comnfortable win over a struggling Reepham Town sees the Reserves move up to mid-table. A second successive game with no goals conceded and 9 scored shows that the team are hitting a bit of form with Attleborough Town next week and then a second round Mummery Cup home match against Kirkley & Pakefield Reserves the week after. With Richard Bond still away, Lewis Bates retained his position in goal and starts were given to Luke Preistley, Dan Hogston and Lawrence Blythe to give them some game time after a spell on the bench for the First Team. It took only 5 minutes for Priestley to make his mark when the ball was moved down the left, passed inside to Priestley who rode a couple of tackles and, from the edge of the area, hit a right footed curler that evaded Chris Purton-Turner in the Reepham goal. Fakenham's second goal came just 3 minutes later when Andrew Skipper dinked a long ball over the Reepham defence and into the path of Ben Darby whose run on goal saw him slot the ball past the outcoming keeper. Fakenham continued to have the majority of possession as the game progressed but Reepham showed a few dangerous touches, mostly involving their No 11 Matthew Hale. On 26 minutes, he won a ball in the air and broke down the left and, from just outside the left of the area, struck a great shot which slid narrowly past the far post with Bates beaten. Fakenham scored their third after 34 minutes when Harrison finished off a header by Ben Darby just a couple of metres out from goal. 3-0 became 5-0 in the next 10 minutes when Luke Priestly scored twice more to complete his hat-trick, his second a replica of his first goal where he beat a couple of defender before getting his shot away to beat the keeper and his hat-trick goal created by Ben Darby who took the ball deep into the penalty area and from the goal line passed across the goal for Priestley to have a simple tap-in. With a 5-0 half time scoreline, expectations of further goals were totally dashed as Fakenham seemed to lose any sense of purpose in their play. Passes went astray or directly to an opposition player and Reepham, sensing that, at least, a goal was there for the taking, mounted a few really good attacks at pace with defenders out of position or lacking numbers and it was only some poor finishing that denied them a goal. Their best chance came after 69 minutes when Luis Gibbons blasted a low shot at goal from outside the area and Bates did really well to get down and push the ball away for a corner. At the other end, chances were made by Fakenham but all a bit half-hearted. So no second half goals, uninspiring football but as they say 'a win's a win and nobody will remember how you did it'. Well, there will be a few spectators who will remember. 'COYG
